LGBTQ+ What Are All Those Letters really about?
LGBTQ+, LGBTQIA+…so many letters, but what do they all mean? Do they refer to sexualities, gender identity, or something else? Let’s break it down first, then we’ll dig deeper
Pronouns, what they are and why they matter
Pronouns, are sometimes referred to as PGP or Preferred Gender Pronouns, although the community uses simply Pronouns, or Personal Pronouns. Tip #1 - “Preferred” should not be used.
Belonging?
I’ve always felt like an outsider, and this feeling caused me to put up a wall that I let very few people through. I was gay and didn’t want people to know so I didn’t let them in, didn’t let them get close. I was judging myself and didn’t want others to judge me too. This has created a sense of not belonging that follows me around still. There are times when I get that unbelonging feeling, and at first I don't know why. But then I remember. It stems from living so many years protecting my secret. And I know I'm not alone in this. Many of us, especially in the LBGTQ+ community, have this coat of armor in place. We may not be aware of it, but it's there.
Women in STEM: Our Challenges and Rewards for Diversifying in the Workplace
Women in STEM - You earned your position, you deserve to be there - if you didn't, you wouldn't be. Companies are not in the habit of keeping employees around "just because". If you enjoy working hard and putting in extra time, by all means go for it. But don't do it because you feel like you have to prove your worth: to yourself or anyone else.
